As we approach the 2024-2025 school year, I’m sure many of the new Badgers and returning students to Brock are wondering what they can do with their major, and what opportunities are available in your program. Luckily you are in the right place! This blog will discuss exploring your major and the many possibilities!
CareerZone’s Degree Exploration Guides (DEG’s) are a great tool to help you explore career possibilities, how to find volunteer opportunities to gain experience, further education and entrance exam resources, and links to professional associations!
The DEG’s also highlights program related skills you gain that can be incorporated into your resume and promoted to employers. Many of the skills are transferable, meaning you attain skills from one experience that can be translated and applied to other experiences.
It is important to remember that everybody’s career path is different, and just because you are in a certain program, doesn’t mean you are limited to certain jobs. It’s encouraged to explore different opportunities and career pathways during and after your program to understand what you do and don’t like.
The CareerZone portal also has career assessments such as Career Cruising that can help you identify some possibilities if you are stuck on where to start, as well as a tool called ‘Ten Thousand Coffees’, where you can talk to alumni and learn about their career path. You can access the DEG’s, career assessments and Ten Thousand Coffees by following these steps:
Login to careerzone.brocku.ca with your student credentials
Select ‘Student Resources’
Select ‘Explore Careers’
Select the faculty your program is in to access the DEG’s OR scroll down to access different career assessments and Ten Thousand Coffees!
