It’s mid-summer Badgers, and we hope you have had the relaxing summer you deserve! Whilst the weather is still beautiful and sunny it's time to begin looking for volunteer positions!
Volunteer work is a great way to fill up your resume, especially if you don’t have much experience within the workforce. You can gain many skills through volunteering like you would in paid employment opportunities, thus allowing you to have a plethora of very relevant experiences on your professional documents.
There are a couple of ways to search for volunteer positions on CareerZone. One is under the “Volunteering” tab and the other is in the “Gain Experience” tab. Once you have logged into your CareerZone portal, you can select “VOLUNTEERING” from the main dashboard. Under the volunteer tab you will find different volunteer positions and resources. You will also find information on the Brock University Volunteer Association (BUVA). BUVA is a group of dedicated Brock Students who participate in skill development workshops and volunteer to improve the local area. Another way to locate different volunteer opportunities and information you might need to provide to volunteer coordinators (e.g. police check), is in the Gain Experience section under “Student Resources” on CareerZone. Through this section, you can connect with the ExperienceBU On-campus involvement portal, where you can explore opportunities on and off campus.
