Congratulations to all of you hard-working Badgers who just graduated! As soon as the celebrations begin to mellow, it's time to begin thinking about your Career Passion! Graduated or not, it is important to think about your future career. We at CareerZone understand that finding your passions within a field can be stressful, but we are here to assist you with all of your career needs!
The first step to finding your career passion is looking at who you are as a person. What are your likes and dislikes in terms of careers? What are your interests, values, skills and strengths? The journey to finding your career passion begins with self-discovery! Know yourself to know what you want in your life.
The second step to locating your career passion is looking at the “Explore Careers” tab on your CareerZone portal. The “Explore Career” tab is amazing as it provides you with a series of quizzes that help you discover your interests and passions. There are 3 main quizzes that we suggest you test out: Career Cruising, Type Focus, and Colour Code!
Career Cruising is an online interest assessment and career exploration tool that helps you narrow down career options based on your interests. Type Focus is an interactive self-assessment tool that will help you understand your personality, interests and values. This will ultimately assist you with making more effective decisions regarding the next steps in your career! Finally, there is ColorCode, a free tool that helps you understand your personality, and that of others. All of these tools are extremely helpful as they allow you to discover personal traits and qualities.
Beyond those quizzes we also suggest running through the Spark Path Challenge Cards. In this activity you will be shown two cards, and from those two cards you will select which card you identify with the most. Following your selection, you will be shown some career options that match your choices.
Once you have completed these amazing activities, it is time for you to move on to step three, which is checking out your degree exploration guide (DEG). On the CareerZone portal, you have access to all of our amazing DEG’s. To locate the DEG for your program, simply find your faculty, then select your major from the drop-down menu! The DEG’s are an extremely useful career tool as they provide insights into potential career opportunities and resources related to your degree.
Once you have navigated through our “Explore Careers” tab on the CareerZone, you can now book a Career Advising appointment with our Talent Development Specialist! To do this, log on to your CareerZone portal, select “Campus Career”, then choose “Appointments” from the drop-down menu. You can select “Book by type” and choose “Career Advising”. It's really that simple!
